New Rugged Computing Platform from Elma Includes Cisco certified Routing Engine

COM Express-based platform brings IP-based data, voice and video networking to mobile vehicular environments 

FREMONT, Calif., January 2015 – Elma Electronic Inc. now offers a modular, high performance embedded computer packaged for applications in demanding mobile environments.

The modular COM Express-based computer includes a Cisco-certified routing engine complete with the full suite of mobile routing protocols essential for network attached equipment on the move. Elma is an approved Cisco Solutions Technology Partner.

By combining a rich set of standard I/O and Intel’s 4th Generation processing power and graphics support with a ruggedized, compact design, the system in ideal for demanding mobile environments in defense, industry, homeland security and agriculture.

Mobile users can quickly establish ad hoc networks as nodes, significantly facilitating communication, and SSD storage is expandable to 64 GB to meet system requirements.

The modular system uses industry standard Type 6 COM Express, XMC/PMC and miniPCIe modules to keep initial engineering costs low as well as protect future computing upgrades. Designed for adaptability, the S50G-1 includes a PMC/XMC site to facilitate quick functional requirement changes, dual miniPCIe sites for a wide range of additional I/O and Elma’s unique mid I/O card that eliminates the typical carrier design for high speed XMC I/O signals.

The familiar Cisco’s IOS software helps to reduce training expenses.

The COM Express-based computer provides dual band WiFi connection for maximum transmit and receive ranges in wireless networks. Support for CANbus enables intra-vehicular communication between essential electronic assets on board.

Packaged in a small, sealed and lightweight chassis, the COM Express S50G-1 is SWaP-optimized for space constrained applications. The platform comes in passive conduction cooled or in a fanless thermal design.
