Avnet Integrated announces robust COM Express™ modules based on Intel’s Atom® x6000E Series for edge computing solutions

Stutensee, Germany – December 2020 – Avnet Integrated presents the scalable MSC C6C-EL COM Express™ Type 6 module family featuring Intel’s new multi-core Intel Atom® x6000E Series or Intel Atom® Pentium® / Celeron® N and J Series processor (formerly code named „Elkhart Lake“). Built on an innovative 10nm process technology, the new Intel Atom® processor technology integrates a new core architecture, graphics accelerators, memory controller and rich I/O functionality into a single platform. Compared to previous models, the new Intel Atom® Series feature significant gains in computing and graphics performance with the same number of CPU cores and power dissipation.

The ready-to-use MSC C6C-EL COM Express™ module family is ideally suited for applications which need a cost-optimized decentral computing performance and high connectivity. Especially for industry applications, the standard modules offer special real-time capabilities such as the support of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (Intel® TCC). TSN enhances transmission of data over standard Ethernet networks by adding new functionality, which enables deterministic data transfer in real-time with low latency and high availability.

The vast majority of the MSC C6C-EL module variants is designed for the extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and a reliable 24/7 continuous operation even in harsh industrial environments or outdoor systems.

Typical applications of the MSC C6C-EL module family are innovative AI and Industrial IoT based systems, powerful HMI and control systems, intelligent cameras, modern medical devices and transportation solutions.

With the availability of the standard module family and adequate design tools, Avnet Integrated allows an early access to the new processor technology and establishes its leading role as manufacturer of innovative embedded solutions. By incorporating the new Intel Atom® x6000E Series into the established embedded standards COM Express™ Type 6 und Type 10, SMARC 2.1™ and Qseven 2.1™, Avnet Integrated can provide the adequate module solution for every application. All embedded modules are developed by Avnet Integrated in its own Technology Campuses and manufactured in-house in highly automated production facilities. All boards are available for at least 15 years from introduction of the integrated processor technology.

Technical specifications:

The MSC C6C-EL COM Express™ Type 6 module family can be equipped with quad-core and dual-core Intel® Atom® x6xxxRE (Real-Time Embedded SKUs), Intel® Atom® x6xxxE (Embedded SKUs), quad-core Intel® Pentium® / Celeron® J64xx or dual / quad-core Intel® Pentium® / Celeron® N6xxx processor variants. The thermal design power (TDP) is between 6 and 12W, depending on the processor type.

To achieve high memory bandwidth, the MSC C6C-EL modules are available with fast dual-channel DDR4-3200 SDRAMs with a maximum capacity of 32GB. For critical applications, an in-band ECC capability can be implemented to store the memory content. Optionally, up to 256GB UFS (Universal Flash Storage) 2.0 Flash is supported on-board. The modules are equipped with a Trusted Platform Module TPM 2.0.
