The goal of the conduction cooled subsidiary specification (MicroTCA.3) of MicroTCA® is to create a conduction cooled module specification appropriate for commercial and other ruggedized applications. This includes extensions to the baseline MicroTCA specification to meet the requirements of:
• Higher level of shock and vibration resistance
• General requirements for airborne, shipboard, and ground equipment
• Outdoor Telecom
• Machine Industry
• Transport Industry
The MicroTCA.3 committee was also responsible for developing a test plan to prove that the MicroTCA connector system can pass the requirements of this hardened environment. This testing was based on the requirements of the MIL-STD-801 and RTCA/DO-160 standards. The testing also included additional electrostatic discharge testing to 15KV.
